This is an 18 bit serial
machine made of discrete transistor logic for Alcoa Davenport to
control an aluminum rolling mill.
- The I/O was memory mapped
- The
controllers and instrumentation were remotely located from the
computer over serial transmission lines.
- All of the programming
was done by hand assembly, with paper tape as the input/output
- The first use of a teletype as the command interface was on this
machine.
